Chaffed Nipples No More!
I find long runs to be a sweaty, salty affair. When I combine these issues with the performance shirts I wear, I end up having a huge problem, chaffed nipples. Trust me when I tell you that this can be awful. You don’t know pain until you have experienced a shower after having your nipples chaffed while you run. You will see stars. If you have ever experienced this, you know just what I am talking about.
I have been looking for a solution to this for years. At first I tried band aids. As soon as I started really sweating, off they came. Next I tried Vaseline, which was a bit better, but totally messy and disgusting. It got all over my shirt and didn’t do a great job protecting my skin. After that, I started using Body Glide. This is a roll on product that is made specifically for runners. This stuff works pretty well. It is odor free, and washes off easily. The only problem is that it wears off to quickly on longer runs, which leaves you unprotected. It was the best thing I could find, so I used it for a number of years. Fortunately I have recently discovered something better:
Nexcare Transpore Surgical Tape.
This is a surgical tape made by 3M. It is a latex-free, hypoallergenic, transparent tape made for surgical use. It is easy to tear, and almost totally waterproof.
I tried using it for the first time on a training run in 90 degree temperatures, with 85% humidity. I was amazed at how well it worked. I was sweating like a pig, but the tape did not budge from where I put it, offering 100% protection for the entire run. The best part was that It did not hurt (or pull my chest hairs) when I removed it. As far as I am concerned my nipple chafing issues are finally a thing of the past. The best part is that you can pick it up at most pharmacies for $3.50 a roll.
If you have similar issues, I strongly suggest that you pick up a roll and give it a try.
